Prevention

Homelessness is not inevitable — it’s preventable. By working with young people and families long before crisis point, Llamau helps ensure that fewer young people, women and children experience the trauma of homelessness

Llamau’s work isn’t limited to supporting people at immediate risk of homelessness. Llamau also works with young people and families to help stop family breakdown and homelessness from happening in the first place.

Llamau delivers the pioneering youth homelessness prevention programme Upstream Cymru in partnership with schools in Wales. The Upstream Cymru programme aims to identify and support young people at risk of homelessness before crisis occurs. Targeted measures help families avoid family breakdown and homelessness, providing a solid foundation for children to thrive.

Our mediation services help families address and resolve conflict. We also work with young people to overcome obstacles that might prevent them engaging in education, training or employment.

Changing the understanding of homelessness and better addressing its causes is vital. Llamau works with local authorities, other charities, homelessness and housing academics, and other partners to continuously improve our understanding of the causes of homelessness and the best ways to avoid it and mitigate its effects.
